Tufts community service programs
Students integrate and apply medical knowledge and clinical skills in ways that benefit the community while also developing their understanding of health disparities, public health issues, diverse cultures, and other issues important to the host community. Tufts University School of Medicine.
We hope you join us in August!! We work with soup kitchens, food banks, and community kitchens to feed and distribute food to those who need it. We work in homeless shelters and help out with the day-to-day work. This may include sorting clothes, making beds, and preparing for meals.
Past sites have included halfway houses, food pantries, the St. Francis house , and the Pine Street Inn. We do hands-on work to help keep Boston green and beautiful. Often, these groups work in parks such as the Boston Esplanade and on the Mystic Watershed. Check out the Intramural Sports schedule here. Do you argue with your professor, pontificate in the dining hall and occasionally clash with your roommate over who should shut off the lights? Debate society might be right for you: the team engages in APDA-style parliamentary debate and hosts an annual tournament on the Hill.
For an international focus, the Tufts Model UN team lets students travel to four debates in two different countries each year. Who says Jumbos don't have rhythm? If you're looking to get moving, the Tufts Dance Department has multiple shows throughout the year. If auditioning isn't your speed, you can join Tufts Salsa, Ballroom, or Sarabande a group featuring modern, jazz, and ballet dance styles.
Spirit of Color performs hip-hop inspired moves and there are two step teams to choose from: Blackout and Envy. There are nine fraternities on campus, four sororities, one co-ed independent fraternity, and four active culturally based, citywide Greek organizations.
You can see Tufts Greeks wearing their letters proudly during Greek Week and organizing major fundraisers throughout the year. You don't have to be a music major to pursue your performance passion. Tufts students can take lessons with Music department faculty members for credit, regardless of their major.
You can reserve practice space and even rent out instruments if you need to. Jumbos can also audition for a number of performing ensembles including choirs A Capella and traditional , strings, bands and world music. There are dozens of ways to get your voice heard at Tufts. Each CSL project provides students with the tools to identify and address the complex factors that influence health inequities.
In addition to the CSL program, students committed to working with the medically underserved can apply for the Sam W. Ho Health Justice Scholars Program , which develops physician-leaders and scholars who are trained to transform healthcare in partnership with communities.
Additionally, the Tisch Summer Fellows program provides paid summer internships in community health centers and local nonprofits focused on addressing health disparities.
The Active Citizenship Concentration Program ACP enables students with clinical experience to interrupt their regular curriculum to pursue full-time volunteer work either abroad or in the U.
